Schools across the UK have returned for the autumn term amid fears of Covid-19 cases rising.

Although your little ones have only recently gone back to school, it is likely that they will already be counting down the days until the next half term – which features Halloween.

However, they might be swapping face paint for face masks as rumours of a ‘firebreaker’ lockdown during the October half term have been circulating following an increase in Covid-19 cases.

But just when is the October half term?

When is the October half term in 2021?

In England and Wales schools will break up for half-term on Friday, October 22, and will have 25-29 October off, before pupils return to class on November 1.

Scottish schools have a mid-term holiday over the weekend of 24-27 September.

They then have a holiday in October, which for many students falls between Monday 11 and Friday 22.

Dates can vary by council, so you should double check your dates on the Scottish Government website here.

Northern Irish students will have a long weekend break from Thursday, October 28 until Monday 1 November, before breaking up for Christmas on Thursday , December 23.

It is also important to check your kids’ school’s website in case they have slightly different half-term dates.

With recent travel restrictions easing for vaccinated travellers, many families are hoping to head abroad for the break.
