The Met Office has issued a weather warning for 14 hours of thunderstorms later this week.

The yellow warning covers parts of central and northern England and Ireland on Friday.

It covers all of northern England, stretching from Birmingham to Glasgow, and west over Belfast and Derry.

The yellow warning – the lowest of Met Office’s three categories – suggests the slow moving thundery downpours could cause some flooding between 10am and midnight on Friday.

The organisation explained: ‘There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater.’

Week ahead: Heavy downpours predicted for latter half of week (Aug 3-8)
