Former President Donald Trump’s longtime lawyer Rudy Giuliani is reportedly almost broke as he faces a federal investigation and a massive lawsuit. Still, Trump – who has more than $100million in his war chest – apparently refuses to financially assist his former attorney.

Giuliani’s friends say he is ‘close to broke’ and that his allies are eying the ex-president’s money ‘and are aghast that Trump isn’t helping Giuliani with legal fees’, The New York Times’ Washington correspondent Maggie Haberman reported on Sunday.

‘Trump aides have been clear they see no mechanism for paying Giuliani’s legal bills that isn’t problematic for Trump,’ Haberman tweeted, ‘And they think Giuliani took actions a lawyer should have known were problematic, even if the client wanted it.’

Haberman noted that Trump previously had an attorney who pleaded guilty and then cooperated in an investigation against him.

Trump raised $82million in the first half of this year and now has $102million saved as he targets Republicans who oppose him and positions himself for a possible 2024 presidential bid, according to the Daily Mail.

Giuliani’s legal troubles rose when FBI agents in April raided his Manhattan home, seizing multiple electronic devices as part of a probe into his dealings with Ukraine. Prosecutors are investigating whether Giuliani illegally lobbied the Trump administration on behalf of Ukrainian officials he asked to find damaging information on then-presidential Joe Biden.

In addition, Giuliani is named in a $1.3billion lawsuit by Dominion Voting Systems over his claims of election fraud in states where Biden beat Trump.

In an interview with NBC, Giuliani, who has denied the charges against him, conveyed that he is aware he may be in legal jeopardy.

‘I mean, I’m more than willing to go to jail if they want to put me in jail. And if they do, they’re going to suffer the consequences in heaven, I’m not,’ Giuliani said. ‘I didn’t do anything wrong.’
